What causes a two year old child to throw up or run a temperature 6 hours after !

Question: At that age, it could be any number of things really. The first three things that come to my mind would be an allergic reaction, mild food poisoning, or the flu. While you can give them some liquid tylenol/advil and something to drink (pediasure if you have it?), I would recommend that if it keeps up you contact a qualified health specialist immediately. (not via yahoo answers, but phone a nurse line or make a trip to the ER)

If it IS the flu, dehydration is a very big issue and the longer you wait, the worse it will get. Don't rule out the flu even if the child has had a flu shot, either (not sure if they even do flu shots for 2 year olds anymore...) because the flu going around in most areas is NOT the same as was used for immunization this year.

mabey food poisoning

She may be coming down with the stomach flu. there is a lot of that going around.

It is probably not the food because they would have had a reaction much sooner, probably within an hour. I would monitor their temperature and if it gets near 100 take them to see a doctor. They may just be coming down with a virus.

1) food poisoning is usually the result of bacteria in the food and the bacteria in question takes time to build up enough in your stomach before making you sick. this is the reason why no one sues over food poisoning they think they get from restaurants. you could have eaten the offending mean several days ago.

2) a fever usually indicates a bacterial or viral infection.

disclaimer: i'm not a doctor just someone who enjoys being informed on a wide range of subjects. if your child's fever doesn't break and/or goes up then i'd take them to the emergency room. children do not take high or prolonged fevers well.

good luck. i hope it's nothing at all and your child will be fine in the morning.

maybe the two year old ate something he/she was allergic too.
or food poisoning, or something was undercooked.
