Foley catheter?!

Question: at nursing home yesterday am, Moms foley fell out and though there were no signs of trauma they wanted to keep it out 24 hrs and monitor for trauma before reinsertion. In the past they would just immediately reinsert it.
Is it safe for her to hold most of her urines usually 60 ml per hour and become disended just to monitor for trauma??? Only minimal urines come out when foley is out.

It isn't good to have the distention however they want to make sure that the tissue isn't damaged before putting it back in. If there is tissue damage that gets worse, then she can get infected or require surgery. I wonder it they are straight cathing her until they put the Foley back in. See what the nurses say they are doing to drain the urine. It is possible that the distention will cause the urine to just flow out if the sphincter muscles are weak so you may not have to worry about distention.

they might try straight cathing her q6 hours and doing bladder scans.
