Cuts On Arm.. What Will Doctor Say?!

Question: im going to start visits to the doctor for two surgeries im having planned this month

however i have self inflicted cuts all over my left arm, and from a previous surgery i had (nose job), i remember i needed to take of my top, and needed to get injected in the arm countless of times (and they tend to go for the left)

if they see the cuts, can they do anything about it? im 18, i just hope if they see them that they won't tell my mother as it'll break her heart. and id hope they'd mind their own bussiness and not ask questions..or is this doubtful?

p.s. before ignorant comments start being posted by clueless idiots, im not emo, so stop generalizing-
and yes,i get help - so please no preaching, just stick to the question

thank you

umm this is a touchy subject for most doctors since you are above the age of 16 where they are no longer aloud to tell your parents everything about you but they are supposed to when your hurting your self or going to hurt somebody else. if you are taking medications and or getting help then the doctor wont have to talk to you parents. some doctors will call this a suicide attempt just because they are worried about you as well.
if you have fresh cuts you should apply creams everyday a couple of times a day to help the healing process. creamy vaselean works very well. if its the scars your worried about you could try a tanning cream it might look orange and gross but it could cover it up. im not trying to get you to hide it but if you are doing all the right things and are on a road to getting better than maybe its time you talk to your mom about it. (sorry i got preachy... again)
you can however request them do things in your right arm. i would always ask for my left arm to be checked so they would not noticed. it seemed to work for me

I dont know whether you are in England or the USA but here in england the age you officially become and adult (16-18)and therefore can get surgery is 18. Therefore they have no right to tell your mother because you are an adult and also because of patient confidentiality.

If you were younger than this age range then they might want to tell your parents for your own saftey/sake but i think that woudl be in extreme cases.

In conclusion (lol) you should be fine. They have no right to tell your mother anything as you are an adult and it is your decision etc.

Good luck with the surgery

EDIT: if it is cosmetic surgery then they shouldnt even think of telling....

They shouldn't say anything, because it would violate patient confidentiality. That doesn't mean they won't, but they shouldn't. Best wishes with everything.

Well, they will probably send someone in to chat with you, but if you are already in therapy for that disease; they will encourage you to continue your therapy. It might be wise to be up front with the doctors before your surgery and explain that you are indeed getting some help. Stay strong and good luck!

My bf's sister does this and I went to the hospital with her for a check up. They automatically asumed there was some sort of drug abuse going on so they began to check the whites of her eyes, inner arms for needle marks etc until I asked them was it really necessary to make the girl feel any worse to which they replied it was routine. I have never had this done on a check up so fingers crossed they dont ask you any questions!!

if they notice not usal in surgery prep they wont say anything confdetalty and you are18 sothey arent alowwed to tell unless you say they can if you were under 18 and concerd for your safety thats and exption and they can tell.
