there is such a thing as a iron overdose.

If you take too much iron, it can adversely affect your liver and GI tract.

You can be sick to your stomach for one thing. There is also evidence that to much iron in your diet can increase the chances of a heart attack.

It made my friend vomit.

Got a few minutes? Taking more of what you need than you need is called overdosing. Iron Toxicity and Overdose early symptoms include stomach pain, fever, nausea, vomiting which may contain blood, and diarrhea. Late symptoms include bluish lips, fingernails and palms, drowsiness, weakness, tachycardia (really fast heart beat), seizures, metabolic acidosis (this is really bad), hepatic (liver) injury, and cardiovascular collapse. A person may appear to recover prior to the onset of late symptoms therefore hospitalization continues for 24 hours after their symptoms subside to monitor for delayed onset of shock or stomach/intestinal bleeding. Complications of overdose include intestinal obstruction, pyloric stenosis (narrowing of the bottom part of the stomach, requires surgery to fix), and gastric scarring. So don't. Too much of a good thing often isn't a good thing. Lab work should always be done to keep an eye on the level and make sure it doesn't get too high.
