What should I do with a prescription I had filled but no longer can take?!

Question: I would hate to just throw it away.

Answers: I would hate to just throw it away.

Call the pharmacy where you got it refilled & ask them if they will take the medication back. Most pharmacies recycle the medication safely in a hazardous waste container. Due to possible contamination, they probably won't redispense that medicine to someone else.

Do NOT flush it! There was just a news story in my area that was researched for 2 years about medications in our drinking water. Some filter systems don't remove all traces & we're drinking flushed prescriptions.

Check Y!A for previous questions similar to yours. I've seen several answers where people have said to flush medications. Thanks for the best answer choice. Report It

  • Well, it depends on the medication. Such as, will there ever be a time you will use it again before it expires? The best thing to do it throw it away.

    Throw it away.
