Insurance companies and anti-depressants?!

Question: I was wondering - why do most insurance companies dig their heels when it comes to dispensing medications to those who need them?

Because they are shysters with deep pockets. There was a report in the newspaper the other day about their profit-margin. I will try to find the link for you.

They are widely abused or sold on streets.I have med refill problems too due to rules and resrictions.

Brand name anti-depressants are very expensive. They may require you to go through a STEP program to prove you need a specific medication. I have never had a problem getting either a brand name or generic anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication. I was prescribed by a psychiatrist first as part of a day therapy treatment program. When I no longer needed therapy, he had my family doctor take over dispensing. My family doctor is very cost conscious.

Go online and see which specific medications they will pay for. When I went onto a Medicare Advantage plan, they refused to pay for one of my allergy medications because the normal use is for asthma. Luckily, I was in the process of cutting back and was ready to drop it and go from Clarinex to the over the counter version which I pay for in full.

My doctor feels that generic forms are as good as prescription, so I am now paying $4 a refill for my generic anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medication.

You must be sure that your insurance covers drugs for mental health. I've heard some companies are very likely to turn down treatment.

There should be some contact at the insurance company you can talk to who may help you figure all this out.

Compared to the money Bush is "Enron-ing" from Iraq this is minor. When Ann Richards was governor of Texas, the people that she put on the Texas Insurance Board had no connection to any insurance company. Our insurance rates were very reasonable. When Prince George ran against her in the Gubernatorial race, Dubya and his homies started a "smear campaign" against Governor Richards. This resulted in her losing the election. He made sure that every person on the Insurance Board was replaced. Replaced with "Company People" from every major Insurance Corporation.

Like most homeowners, we attach the homeowners insurance to the mortgage payment. The year that Bush took office; our house payment increased by $750 per month. That's how much our homeowner's insurance had increased.
