Don't worry about it. I too have noticed that I sometimes have gotten up to 190-200 for 10 minutes or so on an exercise bike or elliptical machine.

All it means is that you're overdoing it, and you should scale back your effort so that you keep your heart rate in the zone it should be in for cardio or fat-burning or whatever you are doing.

It is better to keep your heart rate in the desired range, so you should modulate your effort accordingly to react to whatever your heart rate is doing.

By the way, the rule of thumb for you rmaximum heart rate is 220 minus your age. So if you're about 20 years old, your maximum heart rate is probably around 200 bpm or so. This varies from person to person, of course, but that's a standard ballpark figure.

That should only be sustained for very short periods of time though, and for purposes of exercise -- be it for cardio workout or burning fat -- there is no reason to push yourself that hard, so when you go above 150 or whatever the upper part of your range is, slow down and find the pace that keeps it where you want it to be.

192 is extremely high, if you notice your HR going way about your norm then you should slowely and gradually quit exercising and then rest.

if it is one of those machines where you grab something for your heart rate, you might be gripping it wrong -- when i held my handles wrong the heart rate read as 55, then i adjusted back to what i was at (120)

if this isnt the case you might be over working your body.. that is an extremely high heart rate and yes, it is bad to let your heart go that fast... so i suggest you first make sure you are being measured correctly (do a personal check by finding a pulse with your pointer and middle fingers then counting how many beats per minute) and if it really is at 192, stop pushing yourself and see a doctor

Don't put too much confidence in the heart rate meter on your exercise bike. Even the monitors used in hospitals are not 100% reliable. They can be effected by other muscle movements. The only way to REALLY tell your heart rate is to take a manual reading: Placing your index and middle finger on you neck just to the side of your windpipe (trachea) and count for 1 minute using a watch with a second hand.

As for whether a heart rate of 190 is bad. The answer is yes... if it is sustained. Meaning if it lasts for a period of time. Any adult with a heart rate over 140, that last for more than a couple of hours, needs to go to their local emergency room. It can usually be treated very easily with medication.

No it will go really high depending on how intense your workout is. 220 minus ur age is your max heart rate and it shouldnt be exceeded hope that helps

That is pretty high, you didn't say what your using to check it
