I'm a girl, and I always have gas at night?!

Question: Right before I go to bed, I always have gas. It seems like lying down, especially when I flip on my stomach, causes me to produce gas. It doesn't matter what I eat or don't eat - I've tried isolating carbonated beverages, cheeses, and other foods known to produce gas.

I also usually have gas when I wake up. (Which leads me to wonder if I have gas in my sleep.)

Why does this happen at these two times? I'm fine throughout the rest of the day. How well do pills like Beano work?

It's a socially embarrassing problem - I hate sharing rooms with friends because of it.

The good news is, you're perfectly normal! Everyone has gas and you need to expel it, so let 'er rip! But seriously, if it's excessive you can use simethicone - the brand name is Gas-X, but you can find it in store brands, over the counter. Follow the directions on the package, but take the adult dosage about an hour before bed. Definitely cut out carbonated beverages all together, if you haven't already.

me too...let's get married...OK?

Try sleeping on your back.

maybe its because you lay on your stomach and your gas comes out better that way

My girlfriend does too. So do a lot of people. As long as everybody's asleep you shouldn't worry about. But... if you do want to get rid of it, i'd try Beano. If that doesn't work, see a doc.
