It depends, to some extent, on the type of surgery that you are having done. Generally all invasive surgical procedures are preformed in a sterile environment. The 'no makeup no polish' rule is to help prevent any contamination of environment in which the surgery is being done. Most acrylic nails have some sort of clear coat or polish on them, which would mean they should be removed. As for the adhesive used to apply them to your nail bed it would depend on the type. My advice would be to be safe and remove them prior to surgery. You should also talk with your surgeon if you have other questions. It is unwise to add any addition risk to a surgery as there are plenty of risks that already exist regardless of what you are having done..

Hope that your surgery goes smoothly and recovery even more so... :)

Well I guess it all depends on what kind of operation it is... But are you seriously caring about how your nails look while this is going on!?! Come on girl! You need to get your priorities straight!! Of corse fake nails count too! Take them off!

You will have to take your nails off because they attach something to your forefinger, don't know what it is and also they can tell by your nails if anything is wrong.

As far as I know, fake nails are NOT allowed in surgery, but call the hospital to double check

I'm no expert, but I'd say make-up would possibly interfere with the prepping for surgery e.g. applying betadine (that brown stuff) they paint on the area of surgery. Maybe increasing the risk of infection.

maybe you should not be thinking about your nails???? you are about to be operated on????? anyway. yeah , take them off. the doctors and nurses aren't concerned about how attractive you are. they are concerned about your life.
