Have you used Chantix to stop smoking? What should I expect?!

Question: I'm going to start taking Chantix to help me quit smoking... What were some side effects YOU noticed while taking it, and was it worth it, rather than other quit-smoking venues such as gum or the patch?

Congrats on your decision to quit smoking!
Chantix has been shown to help patients quit smoking. Avg therapy is 3-6 months. Studies have listed the most common side effects are stomach issues - nausea/vomiting, gas, constipation, sleeping issues, headaches. Because of how it works in the brain, the newest side effect that people are worried is suicidal thoughts (ideation) or actually committing suicide. This is very recent..cant remember when the drug company sent me the notice...sometime late last year.

I have a few patients who are on it and no complaints. One complained about a little headache but that went away.

Remember, any side effects listed are what have been observed. Each person's body is different. Experiencing side effects is based on how sensitive your body is to the medication.

Gum/patch/lozenges are great when used in combination and if you are REALLY ready to quit meaning setting your quit date, getting rid of items in the house/car, etc like ash trays, figuring out how to counter your triggers. While on chantix, you can still smoke but after sometime, that brain will start to hate or not give you pleasure/relieve from nicotine so you eventually taper down and quit.

Again good luck to you and congrats.

My grandpa smoked two packs a day for forty years. He quit smoking last year with Chantix, wonder drug. He did have some crazy side effects, but they were worth it.

Expect COOL dreams

Nasty tasting cigs

the ability to get frustrated because you will no longer get that buzz after your dosage is raised within one week.

Vivid dreams, change in taste, appetite, indigestion, trouble sleeping, dry mouth.
Those are side-effects I have been told of.
It was a very helpful medication.

You could also try Wellbutrin.

I'd try Chantix 1st.
