Sleeping medicine ?!?!

Question: when i was younger i was homeschooled and i use to stay up all night.and then when i started school it was really hard for me to sleep and so i told my mom that having a bed time was really hard for me because i would sit there looking up at the ceiling ALL night until like 2 in the morning.now, i'm fourteen, and need to wake up at around 5 in the morning, and falling asleep at 1-2 doesn't cut it for me.i love to sleep but i just can't! since i started a new school i started taking simply sleep. o-t-c sleeping medicine but it seems that if i take it at like 9 it makes me sleep until like 9:30 and them i'm completely awake, like i've had ten hours of sleep! i asked my mom if we could go to the doctors and see about reliable sleeping medication and she said they wouldn't prescribe it to me since i am so young. but it's really unbearable.i just want to go to sleep and not feel so tired at school. like sometimes i fall asleep during class and thats unacceptable.
what are some suggestions?

Im 17, severe insomniac, and have been since around 12. Been on MANY different prescription meds since then, and its simply not true that you cannot get meds that young. Go to a psychiatrist for best results.

Currently I take Ambien, Lunesta, & Klonopin for sleep. But keep in mind that I don't sleep for days and days at a time, im not just a bit tired.

Train your body to go to bed earlier.

if you can't do that speak with your doctor and they can assess whether or not you need a prescription. You don't want to just start taking meds though. They should be a last resort. They are habit forming and only mask the problem.

Sleep tight!

First, how old are you?! My 8 year old takes melatonin, which is OTC. You can take more than 1 pill if it doesn't work. It helps your body wind down so you can sleep. See what the Dr says, it wouldn't hurt!!!

Don't spend time in your room or bed if you don't need too. If you study on your bed, it wont help you to sleep there later. Don't eat about 3-4 hours before you go to bed, and when you do drink milk. Try some calming music, try total pitch black or a small night-light thing... Google it, you'll find a TON on relaxing before bed!
