Dizzy When I Stand Up?!

Question: I am 16 and was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure a while ago, but it is completely under control now i am on the medication.

But everytime i stand up, i have to sit back down or stop for a few seconds, because a surge of dizziness comes over me, i feel like i'm about to faint sometimes.

Why is this? Is my blood pressure to blame? It has only come to my attention over the past week..

Please Help thankyouu!

Your blood pressure may now be low. Check with your doctor. Even people with normal blood pressure can have dizzy spells if they stand up too quickly (orthostatic hypotension), but with your history it couldn't hurt to double check.

you might try getting up very slow..your blood pressure drops when you first stand up this is why you feel like your going to faint. You might wanna discuss this with your dr.

I get the exact same thing. i havent yet been to the doctor about it but my dad said it could be just that i stand up too quickly and a load of blood rushes to my head making me feel dizzy. sometimes i have to hold onto something because i feel as if i am going to fall over but im going to see if it carries on and if it does ill go to the doctor which is probably what you should do x

im no expert but could you have vertigo??
or maby ur getting up to quickly.
sometimes if im in bed and i shoot up i always get dissy.

Try not to stand up too fast. Sometimes I black out when I stand up quickly. That could be it.

glucose might be too low, any chance of being pregnant?

You need to make an appointment with your doctor. Dizziness isn't caused by high blood pressure. If anything, it's the opposite. Blood pressure medications need to be monitored and adjusted by your doctor often.

Diet can often be the cause, in younger people. Not eating, and especially not drinking enough fluids, can cause dizziness.

The truth is, there are a multitude of things that can cause dizziness. Something as simple as too much ear wax, to major heart problems can cause it. Due to your age, chances are very good it wouldn't be anything major.

Just make an appointment to see your doctor. Then make sure you go. ASAP!

Oh I can answer this! I'm sixteen too and the last time I was at the doctor's for a check-up I mentioned that I become very dizzy when I stand up after lying or sitting down for a while. She said it was very common among kids my age and it's just because when you are lying or sitting down and stand up quickly, the blood can not be pumped quickly enough to your head. This results in dizziness and loss of sight. She said it's normal and will go away with time and can also be caused by lack of sodium in your diet. Hope this helps!

you might want to get your bp checked again. or you might consider taking an iron supplement. i used to get really dizzy when i stood up until i started taking an iron supplement then it was okay. talk to your doctor about it.

You might have vertigo or just have low blood sugar. Ask a doctor though.

Well it maybe be a little too much under control. Dizziness while shifting from recumbent or sitting to standing is orthostatic hypotension. Basically its a sudden drop in blood pressure. Its not abnormal either.
However considering the blood pressure i'd at least bring it up at your next visit if not sooner.

Here are some suggestions.
For one, rise slowly. Suddenly standing is often what causes it.
Next, be sure that you have things nearby that you can support yourself with. Worrying about blood pressure is fine, but cracking your head open on the floor is bad for your health.
