Enlarged lymph node...?!

Question: For about three months now, my left lymph node has been swelling up and becoming hard and painful. Its only the left one under my jaw. I'm 12 and female just to let you know. It will swell up at random times in a day about twice. It will get big, hard, and it burns. I went to the doctor's today about an hour ago, but she said she has no idea. She also said that usually its both of the lymph nodes in the neck, not just one. So now tomorrow I am going to get blood drawn. I'm am kinda worried because cancer runs in my dad's side of the family and practically everyone on my dad's side has had some sort of cancer; his parents died of it and he had basal cell skin cancer, but that was removed. Anyway, I really don't have any other symptoms of any sort. Advice please!!

Enlarged or swollen lymphnodes can be signs of many things as the lymphatic system cleans up your body.

It could be an infection in which case they may remove them lymphnode or treat you with anti-biotics. Unfortunately it can also be a tumor, especially if you've suffered from other forms of cancer, especially breast cancer (and thats men and women) which tends to spread through the lymph system.

You might be expecting this but the best advice is to go see your doctor right away.

Cancer, or a tumor. Please go have it checked ASAP

I have had bother with my lymph nodes and glands my whole life, and sometimes i only have swelling in the one side. I wouldnt worry yourself and jump to the conclusion of cancer, especially given you age. In my experiance swelling occured when i am coming down with something, am very stressed out or run down. Your glands are designed to fight any infection so when swelling occurs it usually just means your body is trying to fight something. I hope this helps.
