I have a runny nose...where does it come from?!
Question: The stuff running from my nose, I mean.
Answers: The stuff running from my nose, I mean.
The mucus is actually secreted by the mucous lining of your nostrills. It is secreted normally everyday as a protective layer to the mucous lining but in upper respiratory tract infections, excessive secretion occurs, causing overflow & thus the runny nose.
But, do you notice that you have runny nose when you cry too. In this situation it is actually your tears that drains through your nasolacrimal duct into the nostrills.
Similarly tears are normally produced all the time as a means of protection to your eyes. The tears produced by lacrimal duct serves to wash your eyes & drain to the nasolacrimal duct into the nostrills where it evaporates. But when you cry, excessive tears are produced, thus the runny nose
Its mostly water....mucous is a way of the body trying to a couple of things....protect a lining (in this case, the nasal cavities, which are deep inside the nose) or trying to carry something away.....
Liquid in your nasal passage that help when you are sick.
Think about your nose having a firewall to keep out bacteria.
I have a stuffy and runny nose at the moment, it's so annoying and it feels like I can't breathe right.
