It is true that if you chew your food properly (right down), it digests better?!

Question: That's what someone told me.

Answers: That's what someone told me.

Yes it true. The stomach acids can break it down easier and quicker when the food is in smaller parts. It makes digestion quicker. Chewing is the first part of digestion

I think so

Yes.

ya it's true

yes, it is easier for your stomach acids to dissolve it and use the nutrients, Think about this, what would burn faster, a little piece of wood, or a whole log?

yup.and it reduce your chance of getting constipated.

of course because the digestion process becomes easier and therefore, better

It is true...because saliva is digestive enzymes that start the process. If you don't chew properly...then you get indigestion.

no but it takes longer 2 digest if u dont chew it properly

if you chew it totally to pieces ya..obviously the pieces are smaller so they would digest faster than if you were to take one bite then swallow....

I'm not sure on that but chewing your food properly also helps you eat slower, eat less, and ultimately not gain as much weight because youre not stuffing yourself until you can't hold any more.

yes, Digestion begins in the mouth.

yes it is very true because the food can be broken down faster without as much effort thats more energy for other things like fighting bacteria or healing your body.

Supposedly your supposed to chew it 52 times but i tryed it and it just makes your food all gross and mushy!!

Yes it true. Your stomach doesn't have to work so hard to digest it all. It stays in your stomach longer causing acid indigestion.

Yes, I understand this to be true, that if you chew your food more thoroughly (to smaller pieces) it digests better in a more healthy way. I believe what's more important (or why people bring this up in the first place) is because chewing more allows you more time to eat, and that in general causes you to eat less. That's a good thing overall b/c you are taking more time to consume and your body can tell you when it is full before you overstuff.

My doctor told me it takes about 20 minutes for the body to tell you that you stuffed yourself too much, so never eat a meal in under 20 minutes...I usually take 30 minutes to eat anything...no matter how small. If it's a large meal (several courses) take at least 1 hour or more.

This is one problem in America - eating too fast on the go.

Yup beacuse if you don't chew it up completly you can get indegestion, stomach aces, and you can throw up. When you don't chew it completly you slow down the digestion process because your body has more to breakdown.

yeah, i know i wrote a little too much sorry :)

How old are you? This chewing thing is something that must be addressed when you are about three or four years old when the need for etiquette should be instilled. One must always chew food as properly as ones palette insists, if you are swallowing huge great lumps of food that feel bad or stick in your throat then yes you are not chewing your food properly otherwise what has this question got to do with health. If you are experiencing stomach or gastro intestinal problems you are probably eating the wrong foods, eating to fast or something more serious. I would consult a dietician if after eating you are sick because this is not normal.

True.
Because:
- it's in smaller pieces
- you'll have more saliva
- it mixes with the saliva which has protease and already starts to break down proteins, before food even reaches your stomach
- the actual process of chewing etc. works as an activating / stimulating signal for your stomach.

Essentially the more you chew your food the more surface area you'll be exposing to digestive enzymes and juices. In the end its all coming out in a similar fashion and the chyme moving through your small intestine will probably be a similar consistancy regardless of how much you chew (unless your talking extremes)
