I'm a Catholic & I think the drinking of the wine out of the same cup is not a good idea. They wipe the rim of the chalice with a cloth but all that does is spread the germs. When I go to communion I only take the Host/bread & never drink the wine.

Another thing I hate is at the end of the Mass the sharing of Peace by shaking hands. It just passes cold , flu germs around.

Do you find it so difficult to drink from the same cup as your brother and sister?

Our church doesn't usually do it that way, but its a state of mind as well. You wouldn't normally do that in normal life but it's about the ritual involved with drinking that way. Jesus and His Disciples shared 1 cup when the original Lord's Supper was preformed the night before Jesus died on the cross. It's one of those things that you (as a participant) needs to get past the germ-a-phobia for the sake of the ritual. That is why people put up with it.

Well it is part of something called Communion.
Communion is like the last supper when before Jesus was to be crucified. Jesus broke the bread and said it was his body broken for us and the wine was his blood. He passed it around to all of the disciples and they all drank.
So no i don't think it's gross.
They are your church family.

I totally agree. I always skip it. Nobody cares and I'm not the only one. I always hear people hacking and coughing and don't want to receive that as well.

I think it is discusting to. You don't know if anyone who drank some was sick or had a disease or something. If I was you I wouldn't drink any either.
