I'm thinking of having laproscopic gastric bypass?!

Question: I'm 26yo and thinking of having it done. I've been heavy most of my life and I'm ready to shed the weight. I've done diet and exercise, but I need more I think. Anyone out there that's had it done any recommendations, cuz I'm really scared! People have died from it, or infection.

If I were you I would find support groups and ask questions. My daughters Aunt had a laproscopic gastric bypass and she is doing great but another woman who worked for my brother-in-law had one by the same doctor and she died.

Here is one support group:

This is only my own experience, but I have seen a lot of them. Unless your weight is seriously affecting your health it's not worth the risk. Too many people go through all that and end up right back where they started. Others have terrible complications and end up in worse health than before.
I would continue pursuing a healthy lifestyle and not worry so much about the weight.

No! No! No!
Please don't consider this, ever. You are young, and my mother died 10 years after the surgery. She was 59 then. The problem with weight control will not be solved by the surgery as she gained it all back (another 100 pounds) and she found the diet restrictions so unpleasant and the smell she made with her breath and feces was so disgusting she isolated herself. The stomach does re-expand and the dietary supplements make you feel sick, as well as vomiting food she used to eat. She was very depressed most of the years following the surgery and though she did lose weight initially her body image still suffered because of the sagging skin and the surgery killed her in the end. I have heard countless stories like this from others and though it can work for a while, almost all fail eventually or require additional surgery. The doctors and pre-"support" groups are brain washing and naturally have their own interests to support. It did lower her blood pressure, but that was only positive effect and that could have been controlled years later. Her death affected all who loved her and she herself told everyone not to do it. My father, the asshole, promoted her death in the end, so be wary of the reasons you are doing it. If you are not successful in the diet/exercise methods, this is not going to going to solve it. You must address the psychological issues. I might suggest investigating the toxic shame concept by John Bradshaw as a start.

It depends on how much you weigh. Have you considered all of your options, for instance gastric banding (lap band) is a non invasive procedure which has helped morbidly obese patients loose large amounts of weight. If you have no complications after the surgery you can be released the same day.
