Failed a drug test?!
Question: I was notified today that I failed a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. I dont know yet what I popped for, but here are the facts: The only drug I have ever done was pot, and the last time I've done it wa at least a year ago, and I only smoked about twice a month back then. about a month or so ago, I was in a room with smokers, but I didnt smoke. The day before the test, I had a beer after work, and I havent taken any RX meds, or even tylenol. I have no Idea how this could have happened. Any ideas, and do you think they will let me retake it? FYI the test was done at quest diagnostics. Could it be something I ate? anyone know anything about this kind of thing? I'm really stumped.

Not knowing what substance caused the failure makes it difficult to answer.
If it's been year since you last smoked, then your system will be clean of that.
Even if you were in a room full of smokers yesterday, you wouldn't pick up enough to cause a positive result. Since this passive smoke was a month ago, then clearly that would not be the cause of the positive result.
A beer would take about 12 hours to leave the system, and even then, it is legal so I have doubts about this causing the failure.
Try to find out what substance they detected and then repost your question, as that will help in determining what happened.
poppy seeds can make you fail a drug test, but i would place my bet on the room full of smokers.
It may have been the beer alcohol that did it? Also may have been a false positive, ask to retake it.
A really good friend of mine failed her drug test and she has never drank or done drugs. She just happened to eat a poppy muffin that morning and it threw off the test causing her to fail. Come to find out poppy seeds will cause a drug test to come up positive. Did you eat something with poppies in it?
If you inhaled enough fomes long enough, maybe. But this happened to my dad one time when he was younger, THC stores in the bodies fat cells and if you lose weight, it can send it back into your system, causing you to test positive for THC. Have you recently lost weight?
It's already been proven that you would have to consume several POUNDS of poppy seeds to test positive by the way.
In room with smokers(mj) - that might have down it. Could ask for a retest with hair samples or blood- urine sample tests can have some false positives. If you want to pay for some reason and you're sure you can pass , ask for it. Know a guy who had a first test positive while on probation/work release that got the better , more expensive second test and passed- in his case the unchallenged first test meant confined to jail for months after shown to violate conditions of work release so going for test that could distinguish over counter medicine from illegal drug was worth it. Opiate positives sometimes known from poppy seed pastry eating.
