What does "DSc" mean, listed after "MD" in someone's nam!
Question: DSc means Doctor of Science, and it usually has the speciality of the science degree, i.e. Botany or Veterinary Science.
MD means Medical Doctor which really means that he/she is really just a "Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)".
MM means the person is a Master of Medicine, the next highest from MBBS.
'DM' or a 'PhD of M' are: Doctor of Medicine and PhD of Medicine respectively. Both are the highest degrees one can achieve in medicine.
I once attended a graduation ceremony where one person who had a MBBS, MM, MSc and had been called a doctor for over 27 years, and who was a Professor, was granted her PhD of Medicine. The quip from the granting University Registrar was "Now she is a real Doctor".
