Foot support?!

Question: Hi, I always wear flip flops, converse, sandals, etc. Always flat. Could that be bad for the bottom of my feet? Should I start wearing running shoes or something that gives you foot a little support?

I just wanted to know because after a long day my feet hurt on the bottom! Thank you.

The foot is designed to support itself, as well as acting as a 'shock absorber' when we walk. We were originally designed to walk barefoot, without any 'arch support'. The idea that we need to fill the medial arch of the foot in order to help our feet 'work better' is based on completely flawed logic.

However, given that you're getting pain in your feet, you may well feel more comfortable in shoes that have a closed-in heel, adjustable fastening over the middle of the foot (laces or velcro strap), & a spongy sole.

If you continue to get pain, maybe you need to see a podiatrist - ask at your GP surgery & they'll tell you how to access the local podiatry/foot health department.

Many people feel pain at the end of the day in their feet. You may have flat feet, or high arches, or fallen arches which could cause your feet to hurt - what may help is getting some arches from the store, or like Dr. Scholls, or getting some custom made flip flops with arches in them to give your feet a little extra support. Your feet may still hurt after a long day even with that or not. I wouldn't necessarily invest in running shoes - I'm not really a kind of person that likes to wear running shoes on a normal basis. I prefer fashionable shoes, and it sounds like you do too. If it becomes a real problem, go see a foot doctor who could give you orthotics, or maybe some other method that will help your feet hurt less.

Definitely wear shoes with proper support! Your arches are going to fall, if they haven't yet, if you keep wearing shoes which lack adequate arch support.
