I am not sure about the money issue, but I am a Physical Therapist Assistant in Missouri. Depending on where you are, your decision may also be based on how much college you are willing to attend. In Missouri, PT's now require a PhD and PTA's require a Bachelor's degree. Here, just because you have a PhD in the field does not mean more money. after 13 years in the field, I make more money than most new grads now.

You should definately talk to your PT and you might want to "shadow" a PT at somewhere like a nursing home, hospital or outpatient clinic. You could bring it up by asking what college they went to and explain why, if they are anything like me, they would definately encourage you.

You might want to "shadow" nurses in various aspects of their fields also.

it's your life so dont be afraid to ask questions, they were once where you are right now undecided.
RN's make more money than physical therapist's do but both are in demand even with a bad economy
.
Good luck
