I need to take a 24 hour urine for my OB/GYN. Must it be kept on ice or can I ke!

Question: The 24 hour urine is to test creatanine and protein and something else... they said to put on ice, but at $2 a bag which will just melt away... can't I just keep the jug in the fridge?

Fridge is fine, they tell people ice because some people find it disgusting to put body waste in the fridge.

I always was told to put them in the fridge.

keep it cold but not frozen. frozen samples when thawed will dilute the concentration of the urine, and possibly whatever they are testing for (protein, bilirubin, sugar, etc).

put the urine in a sample bottle, and keep it refigerated, no need to keep it on ice.

hi
i would just put it into the fridge as the gp surgery do this when its handed in till the collection person comes for it.

In the hospital, we keep it on ice. Yes, it means replacing the ice as needed every couple hours....thats the only way Ive seen it done.

Call the doctor's office to find out for sure.
