It helps to determine why you are ill.

Fevers present when you have an infection. Depending on how high the fever is they can often tell either if the infection is viral, bacterial, or fungal or parasitic. Watching the speed of a fever, and if it drops can tell them if treatment is helping you or not.

Also, if your fever spikes too high it can make you VERY ill or do permanent damage to your brain.

So basically its a diagnostic method to figure out whats wrong and how to help you better.

The hypothalamus gland, located at the base of the brain, controls internal body temperature. When people get fevers, its due to some type of infection. Once we get infections, our bodies release white blood cells to help fight off the infection. As they are released, they move faster and faster trying to win the battle against the infection thus causing our bodies to warm up.....Run a Fever

well to keep it simple a "fever" is your bodies way of telling you that something is wrong,,,,,,,and the higher the fever the faster you drive to the hospital,,,,,,,,,,

well if they didnt they wouldnt know how your heat measure ison your body or what state of your body is.in.
