Deathly Terrified Of Needles?!

Question: I hate the dumb things! I have my ears pierced. I grew up in a medical family and i can watch someone being ripped open from limb to limb with a chisel attacking their knee caps but i can NOT watch a needle. I get dizzy at the sight of needles. I've fainted, one time i threw up on the doctor as I was fainting and now i have to have a gardisil shot. Any suggestions?

I would call the doctor before you go, tell him or her about what has happened before, and ask if you can have some anti anxiety medicine to take before you get there for the shot that way you aren't so nervous about it. Then, when they are giving you the shot, don't look. listen to your ipod or CD player if that helps too.

Tell the doctor or the nurse giving the shot how you react, they will know what to do. Above all, turn your head, and don't watch.

Look away from the needle.

I understand. My twelve year old daughter is "deathly terrified of needles" she starts shaking, it's awful. At first I would get so upset with her, I didn't understand why. I still don't, but I do try and calm her down when needed. She is not looking forward to her last guardasil shot either. I just tell her to turn away and take deep breathes. Although she also will not stop staring at the damn needle! Just relax and hold someone's hand...good luck
