Ate bad chicken -- threw up once, had diarhea all night. Should I let it pass or!

Question: I dont understand how I can still be having the runs -- there can't possibly be anything left in my stomach! The last time I ate was 4 p.m. yesterday. I ate two week old chicken by accident -- I smothered it in hot sauce, so I couldn't even tell it was rotten (STUPID!)

I started having diarhea around 6 p.m in 10 - 15 minute intervals and I threw up around 9 p.m.

I called out from work because even though I haven't vommited again, I still have diarhea and feel nauceous.

Do i need to actually go to the doctor or just let it pass and keep taking Pepto Bismo?

I haven't barfed again, but the thought of eating makes me sick. I don't even want to drink water or eat popsicles.

Stop taking the peptobismol and don't even think of eating. You should stick with clear liquids only- if you can't see light shine through it (beer excepted) then do not drink it. Stay away from all the dairy products as well. Your stomach may be empty, but until the colon is you will have diarrhea. Your body is trying to empty out all the gerbies, and the last thing you want to do is stop that process. Unless you like the idea of gas and cramps, which is what you will get if you bottle them up inside you. Drink nothing but clear liquids for the next 24 hours. You will probably feel woggy, that's to be expected. You can sip sports drinks if you like to provide sugar and salts you need to replace. Once your gut is empty the diarrhea should stop on it's own. After 24 hours of liquids, you can have bananas, white rice, applesauce, white bread and crackers to your hearts content, washed down with all the clear liquids you like. Day 3 you get to have bland foods, like lean meat and plain veg. No dairy nothing though- no milk, cream, butter, cream of anything soup. Also avoid salad veggies. Day four, eat a carton of live culture yogurt, flavor is your choice- organic is best, and with real sugar and not aspartame. A carton or two per day for two or three days, to replenish the good gerbies you need for digestion, and are currently flushing down the tubes. Then start easing in the dairy and a regular diet. I don't recommend a full fry up meal, a curry dinner, or downing a gallon of ice cream, but other than that your system should be fine. No point going to the doctor, there is nothing he can really do for you. Your body can handle it, providing you don't fight things. Do not dump in a bunch of Pepto, or Immodium. Your body is currently trying to rid itself of invaders. It's already eliminated the incoming, and now it has to clean house of anything that managed to get further down. If you are a normal person, you had about 24-48 hours worth of food inside you already, when you ate the tainted chicken. All of that has to be cleaned out, plus a bit more to be safe. You will be fine, just drink until the old molars float. If you take potions to stop the diarrhea, you will likely get worse nausea, gas and cramping- and there will be no help until the medications wear off. In the meantime you just suffer. Baby wipes will be more useful and easier on the personality than dry paper, by the way. You'll survive, promise. Just drink and wait it out. And don't feed the gerbies for 24 hours.

I would go to the doctor. Poultry can get some nasty bacteria in it really fast. Your only supposed to keep poultry in the fridge for 3 days.

You should go to the doctor!

I'd say see the doc. Meanwhile, have a cup of black coffee. It helps to clean out the stomach and stop loose motions.

Wish u a speedy recovery

diahorrea and vomiting are a natural reaction to try and clean out the gut of anything harmful, and this can last even when the harmful substance has been removed.

dehydration could be a big problem. if you cant keep ANYTHING down, eventually you may become quite ill. try and drink water, little sips. if you cant keep it down and your still having the diahorrea then you do need to seek medical help. they can give you fluids IV which you wont throw up.

most cases of food poisoning clear themselves up within about 4 days, any longer than that and i would be seeing a doctor.

I'd check in with your doc. by phone just to be safe and follow his recommendations.

u sooo need to go c a doctor,ok!
