Sharp pains in my legs?!

Question: My legs would feel as if they had a sharp sting in them and kept me up nights when I was little. They kept persisting, so I was taken to the doctor, but he said nothing was wrong--just 'growing pains*' that most children feel. Yet they have come back again and again all throughout my life. They have been fading through years, but now the sting is starting to come back slowly. I'm able to put up with the pain now, but it sometimes seems as if something is wrong with me because no one I have met has these same issues. Does anyone know what is wrong with my legs? Does anyone else have these problems?
*And if it was growing pains I would be taller. I am only 5'1" and have finished growing. My parents are around six feet and all of my siblings are around that height.

It's funny how certain pains stay with you all your life. Two things come to mind with this stinging pain in your legs. Movement - you might ask somebody about Yoga. They have various Yoga classes here and there, and I've so often heard people say that Yoga really does keep them much more pain free.

I've never done Yoga - but probably should. Or you might ask a chiropractor. You could be pinching nerves in your back which hurt in the legs. The 'sting' you talk about suggests pinched nerve.

Another idea is diet - specifically food allergy. Many people are allergic to wheat, but only slightly. So you can eat wheat for a long time before symptoms start. And the symptoms are usually pain. I had pain everywhere - in the joints and muscles - huge amounts. Tried the Atkins diet where you don't get any wheat, and the pain gradually went away completely.

Good luck with that.

sounds like sciatica.

Go to an orthopedist. This is not normal. don't let any doctor tell you nothing is wrong. Something is wrong. Leg pain on a consistent basis is not normal.

ive got no idea, r u sure ur done growing??? mayb u should see a doctor again, who studys growing or legs etc. get a few more ideas from them, good luck!

wow... hm have you seen a doctor since? Because if they know that it has persisted they might take a look into it. Also, have you talked to your parents about it?

Make sure your having enough calcium.
If Im not sure where the sting pain is? muscle? bone?
make sure your sheets are not to tight and you can move your feet around freely.
Get some good walking shoes.

Holy Frick!!!
that is soo wierd, i have the same exact thing...like sometimes its at ur knee and it kills to bend it and others it is at the bottum of ur leg right, and it just comes and goes...right?
same thing with me, when i went to the doctor he said i put to much weight from my hips or something... and then i went for an x-ray and they said it seems to be normal...

when u walk does one of ur legs come in more, than the other, cuz they all say that could be my problem, and everyone sais i walk weird.....and i thought it was only me...

Scary ey?.....

Edit:may i ask...how old are you? cuz im 15, turning 16 in nov.

one more thing, does it happen more when u stay awake for a long while, cuz thats how it is with me....but not always...
