Diet: Eating good natural wholesome foods provides the body with nutrition. Foods with vitamin B is best for depression. Avoid all preservatives, soy, sodas, sweeteners, and processed foods. They can all be a cause for depression. It will also help you lose fat and be healthier.

Exercise: This releases endorphins that make you feel better. Any exercise will work but if you want to lose fat as well build your muscles. A regular walk can help keep depression away. (Its great when my wife runs, she is a much happier person to be around when she does).

Sun: Vitamin D in its natural state can only be gotten through sunshine on the skin. MD's of old use to prescribe the sun to depressed prone people, and it worked. Don't use the sunscreen and make sure you cover up before burning. 10-20 minutes for most light skinned people.

If the above doesn't help after 45 days, go see a therapist. Everyone I know that has followed this plan have never had any more problems with depression, and they didn't gain weight. Good luck.
