Can I overcome REALLY unsevere stuttering? I started in 2nd grade. Now I'm i!

Question: This has been RUINING my life. School's so hard for me right now but I try not to participate because I'm afraid I'll stutter.
I'm currently in 7th grade, and I started having a REALLY unsever stutter in 2nd grade.
I was never born a stutter, actually, I was really fluent. My mom always said that I was really fluent as a baby.

I'm popular at school but now some of my friends think I'm weird because I keep to myself most of the time. Middle school is a hard time:( I rarely think of my unsever stuttering in elementary school.

HELP! I really want to overcome it I've borrowed "Self Therapy for the Stutter" at the library but it doesn't really help (I read the whole thing)
I've tried tongue twisters. My stuttering comes and goes, and it worsens a little, but always goes back down.
i stutter about once every 3 minutes of conversation (I stutter like "l-letter"
Most of the time it's silent stuttering. Like the "l" is silent but my mouth still moves but then I can say "letter"
Help!!!!

Hows it going?

Listen, I had the EXACT same problem and I remember it got worse when I was around your age.. I'm now 22 and I dont remember the last time I stuttered, so don't stress it!!!!!

Most of the time stuttering has to do with the way we breathe.. remember to take in a breath before speaking instead of rushing.. we try to speak without having sufficient air in our lungs.. and thats how we stutter..

So let me let you in on what I did to overcome the stuttering..

Pick up a book and begin to read it out loud.. take breaks every few words to breathe.. make it a habit when doing this to simply pause.. take in a deep breath and continue.. when you feel you are improving without stuttering.. then work on it sounding more fluid..

The breathing lesson helped me out a lot..

Also, talk to you parents or guardian.. they should never remind you that your stuttering etc.. that just got me more nervous and didnt help me out.. ask them to help you out by taking you to a speech therapist..

and dont worry!! you'll be just fine!!
Best of luck to you

maybe you should go to a speech conselor i went to one in like 2nd and it went away =)

Yes, You can.....Guess what.....read up on James Earl Jones....the Voice of Darth Vader!!!

Samuel L. Jackson, Bo Jackson, Carly Simon, and Mel Tillis They all stuttered!!!

More - Winston Churchill, Darwin, Moses, Aesop!!! Believe in yourself....

Hi, I am studying to be a speech pathologist (therapist) right now and I am taking a stuttering course. You should definitely find a good speech therapist to help you with this. There should be one at your school, or you can talk to a teacher or counselor to see if they can refer you to one. If there is a university near your home, check with them to see if they have a speech clinic and you could receive services there.

This is definitely treatable. A speech therapist can teach you techniques you can use to reduce or hide your stuttering so that you can speak with less tension. Did something stressful happen to you in the 2nd grade around the time your stuttering started? Sometimes a traumatic event or major life change can make us start to stutter.

I am glad you've tried to work on eliminating your stuttering on your own, but I would urge you to find a good speech therapist. It sounds like your case is pretty mild, so I feel confident that you can fix this!

I know middle school is tough. I was picked on a lot. Being different is no fun.

Please post again if you have made any progress. I am interested to see how you do.

Good luck!
