Good question. Getting drunk 5 of 7 days -yes, getting drunk each time you drink- yes, not being able to turn down a drink- yes, driving after drinking- yes, 1 or 2 drinks every social event you attend- maybe. Do you let it run your life-yes. If you have to have a drink each time you do something like go to a picnic, sports event, etc. -yes.

No you are a party-er but keep it up and you will be a alcoholic.

It depends upon the situation in my opinion. If you have a lot of friends and go to parties all the time with them, then it seems like you are just a partier, although that's still not a very good idea to do it that much. However if you are going to a bar with the specific purpose of getting drunk and that is the reason you are going, not to have fun with friends, then you have a serious problem.

An alcoholic may drink much more than that, probably at some time everyday. Not only such, but would no longer be as sensitive to the alcohol (not getting drunk as easy) and a great telltale way: drinking alone.

If you really can't stay away from alcohol and it starts taking control of your life, you are an alcoholic. I think that drinking alone has nothing to do with it. Many people on their own like a drink or two after a day's work. I don't think that makes them an alcoholic. Real alcoholics can't stop at a drink or two. I don't think time of day isn't necessarily an indicator unless it's a part of the nonstop pattern. I mean, a mimosa in the morning is nice on occassion.
Being an unhealthy drinker is another matter, though some people might not think so. Getting drunk 5 days a week does not sound like a healthy habit. That may be a bad habit, but not necessarily an addiction.
By the way, if you ever get the dt's (which you may be on the way for if you drink for days upon days), they can be a real trip. The delirium can be a temporary psychosis. There's a cool old b&w movie called "The Lost Weekend" about a man who goes thru his first bad withdrawal. It's great even just for those who like nostalgia of a past era.
Serious alcohol withdrawal, despite the evil that everyone hears about drug withdrawal, can actually be one of the most dangerous and potentially fatal withdrawals. Despite alcoholism's prevalence, I think that surprisingly little of the population is aware of the range of problems that occur with withdrawals.

I think so. Drinking just for the sake of it and the need to get drunk every day could be alcoholism.
Its more like an addiction when one finds themselves out of control. you start finding more excuses to keep drinking.
Some people get over it with help. But for this you need to want to stop.

If you can't roll out of bed in the morning w/o crackin' open a bottle...... then you know you're an alcoholic

trust me i used to live with one!!

You can actually drink yourself into being an alcoholic. Simply put, and alcoholic has no control over how much he drinks once he starts... so the simple test is try to have one beer at a bar and go home and not drink anything else for that night... if you can do that you're not an alcoholic. If you're an alcoholic you'll have that one beer, then make up a lame excuse and drink 20 more and black out etc etc...
