Electric Shock or Spark Burn?!

Question: Well, I was attempting to fix my hair dryer.. Yes stupid I know. the console was open and it was plugged in (after several failed attempts to find the live area unplugged) I had one had on the .. well Where the hot air comes out and I had held that before without shock or problem both plugged in and live and running. So I was using that to guide the blue wire (moving my wrists while keeping away from the console) and I found it and it started to run and also spark quite a bit and I got a sudden burning pain though small on my left arm which was resting on my lap not touching the hair drier in any sense and t he arm that touched it I felt nothing. What does this sound like. And it happend at about 4:30 am est so its been a bit of time. I never had any "tinggly" feelings that i can recall either. But in any case lesson learned and hair dryer thrown out.

from what you write it could be neither- or both
if it was an electric shock then the electricity took the shortest route to earth. any burns should be along the shortest route.
if it was an electric burn then the damage would be on the part of the body which touched the electric arc- or the part of the body through which the electricity earthed itself
So it might have been a cramp or something.

you posted the same thing yesterday. It kinda doesnt matter coz neither would need medical attention so just pick which ever one you think happened. And no more fixing hair dryers

your arm completed the circuit (i don't know why it went through your arm and not your leg). anyway, you got a good shock. it would be smart to just buy a new hairdryer and not mess with the electrical bits.

if your body doesn't provide a ground for the electricity, then this doesn't happen. that's why electricians wear boots with non-conducting soles and have one arm free - not touching anything.
