What causes you to be winded?!
Question: A few days ago i was punched in the lower left side of my back. It dropped me to my knees and winded me. What actually causes this? Also, since then i have a lot of pain around my rib area especially when breathing in deep and coughing etc. And the pain is now more towards my front than my back. I was x-rayed and everything was O.k so what is causing this ongoing pain?

you probably have a bruised muscle. You get winded because you diaphragm contracts when you are hit forcing the air out of your lungs. It may spasm for a few moments not allowing you to catch your breath.
