Why do you throw up when you're hungover?!

Question: When you get to a certain point, drinking becomes toxic. When you drink enough you enter the first stages of alcohol poisoning. In an effort to keep yourself from becoming "overdosed" with alcohol your body vomits.

Vomiting is the body's way of saying enough! It is also the body's way to purge itself of harmful substances. Some people can drink more than others so it depends on your size, weight and so on. Vomiting is a way of saying, stop drinking, I've had enough.

Thus, you are hungover because of the alcohol and you vomit while hungover because your body is trying to get rid of this intruder which it perceives as being harmful at a certain amount. It's good thing, it's your body protecting itself.

A hangover is your body recovering from the alcohol you poisoned it with. Your body is trying to get back to the state it was in. Your probably purging the rest of the stuff your body couldnt take. Its not bad, your body needs to get rid of it.

tofeelalive is right about alcohol being a poison to the body. Your body will respond to excess alcohol by causing you to vomit. It is simply trying to purge any remaining poison from you stomach before it gets into your system. Hang overs occur as a result of the body purging the alcohol that made it into your system. The alcohol that makes it into the blood stream gets filtered out by your liver and kidneys. It basicly flushes the alcohol from your system, that is why you may make serveral trips to the restroom during a night of drinking. This dehydrates the body and leads the the sick feeling hangover. One way to avoid a hangover is to drink plenty of water while you are consuming alcohol. This will help keep your body hydrated and thus stave off the hangover.

One more thing, drink responsibly! Don't drink and drive and try to always stay aware of the fact that alcohol will decrease you inhabitions and lead you to do things you may regret later. That's hard to do when your drunk, believe me, but for your own safety try.
