Will i ever overcome depression, who has recovered from it??!

Question: I had a very hard time some years back and was close to suicide. I saw a psychotherapist and it was the very best thing for me. I was very wary of their psychological theories and being a lab rat but it was nothing like that.

I would say if you have close and trusted friends you can talk a lot to about this, then it is similar to the effect you get from seeing a psychotherapist, but if not I would really, really recommend one. Some even offer advice voluntarily I think.

The main thing is to stay and think positive and not negative . Staying Positive helps you fight more and you can get through everything then .

i have recovered from depression i went to my doc found medication no good so went to see a councilor and that helped me see things much better im now fully recovered and did it without medication

Yes you can. When life seems cruel and pointless, i feel really down- all the suffering in the world etc. However, i escape by reading and watch films and just try and have a laugh- and hey things are ok- when you realise the rest of humanity is in the same boat and you are not alone. We are only on this earth for a short time- so don't wory about it- make the most of it- as an experience- sometimes bad - but sometimes very good.

Why would you want to, its great!
Many manic depressives enjoy the condition.

Yes you can.

I have been through some very, very black episodes in my life and whilst I feel I am still sometimes teetering on the edge, I do feel I have recovered as I am able to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Whereas before I would have seen only blackness and despair.

Keep talking to whoever you can about it, it really does help just to have someone who listens.

All the best to you. x

Let's get clarity first. Are your depression the result of chemicals in your brain or did something bad happened? If it is the latter, read all the other posts. If it is the chemicals..I can help. Firstly, I decided many many years ago to stop using anti-depressants because I don't want my soul to be dependant on it. So I started exercising more because a natural "feel good" chemical is produces whilst doing so. Whatever you do, get out of your house. I tend to stay in bed all day long and avoid the outside world. Go for a walk...GET OUT!! After that you will know what your soul and body needs to cope.

Yes you can. My Mother died last Auguest. I went into a very deep place. My sister made sure I went to the doc's and got meds for this right away. It took months. It was not overnight. I had to deal with it, cry, look at pictures, touch her things, cry some more, and try to live daily. Just to make it another day. Sometimes when it was really bad, I'd just try to survive the hour or minute. And then try to get through the next. I think what took me so long, was that her death was so close to all the major holidays. And not having her there. It may not take that long for you. But do go to your doctor. Get help. Sometimes we all need alittle help. Good luck to you. You can do it.

The key to over comming depression is to eat right and exercise much. If you are unwilling to do these things then go to the doctor and let him or her know about your depression. There are wonderful drugs out there that really do improve the quality of life.
I have done both. Currently not depressed and eating right and exercising a lot. I prefer the non chemical way. Zoloft helped a lot when I was on it. Diet and exercise takes around 6 weeks to start really feeling the positive effects, Zoloft was instant.
I'm no doc, just sharing my experience with depression.

I have suffered with depression for years. The meds really help but I must say that you have gotten some good advice on here. Another thing I do is take time to actually write a list of all the things I'm grateful for. It is sometimes as simple as my dog, or a funny tv show I watched, or just for having a roof over my head.
The exercise thing is very helpful, too.

hang around positive people for a while, take depression pills thats how some people recover from it.

To be honest, unless this is your first ever time, most people who suffer from depression find it a cyclic thing. you go down, you stay down who knows how long- it is unpredictable - and you eventually come up again!

However, even for people who have never suffered before, and who have enough self knowledge to see what is happening are still not in control of the depressed situation, so it looks like there is no end, no answer and no hope. The truth is though that none of these things is true, and you will manage to return to normality.

Sometimes it is a physical imbalance of hormones, sometimes literally a mental imbalance due to emotional experiences and similar factors. However, the main thing is to seek medical advice (not necessarily drugs) and to call on the help of trusted friends and/or family. You also need to get out, exercise and meet other people. Just a little at first, maybe twenty minutes, a walk, window shopping etc.

I can confirm that I recover on a regular basis (not predictably, but each time) usually every few months after depression has grabbed hold of me one more time.

#1 I do not believe in those damn pills that doctors hand out. With that aside....alcohol is a depressant. so drink very little or none at all. Proper diet and exercise will improve your attitude on life. There are many natural ways that help.

yes u will, just need to find the cause of your depression and talk about it and be social

one of my friends suffer from depression since i met him and now he's a very active person
