Closing your eyes when sneezing is a involuntary reflex like moving your hand when you feel something hot. There are very few people born without this reflex and can sneeze with eyes open but its very rare. Your eyes are held in with ligaments and bands of tissue so theycant flyout thats a myth

...that saying is wrong. You can in fact sneeze with your eyes open without any serious side efect . It has been proven by Adam Savage. SOOOO... if you did not have eyelids, it would probably not make any difference at all.
