Why is it bad to suddenly stop taking your anti-depressants?!

Question: Zoloft is the anti-depressant I'm referring to.

Answers: Zoloft is the anti-depressant I'm referring to.

I quit cold turkey also, I am now back on my meds, going off cold turkey can cause you to go into a much deeper depression. From my experience, I do know this to be true. I went into the worst depression, I have ever experienced and do not ever want to go back to that state of mind. It took all I could to even function in a day. And if I had a gun in my house, I am sure I would not be typing this right now. So don't mess with your meds talk with your doc first. I am grateful for people who do care.

do so only under the direction of your doctor

because the effects of coming off of it are ten times worse then depression. You have to wean yourself off of them with the advice of a doctor.

i went off mine when i was 18 and never went on them again and ive been depressed for 6 years and totally had no control over my life what so ever...LOL that a good enough reason to not do it?... i do believe some doctors are pill pushers my doctor wasnt interested in talking to me about my problems he just wanted me on pills thats a huge reason why i stopped...best thing is to make sure you have the best doctor one that actually cares...2nd is medication.

because u can have a relapse

I take Zoloft and have stopped from time to time... it was always a mistake... the Zoloft has created a chemical dependency in your brain, without it, your brain goes through with drawls... it make me very moody. I believe that if you've taken it for years it could really mess you up. Ive been taking it for about 3 years now.

im pretty sure anti depressants are hormones. if you suddenly stop taking them, it causes your hormone levels to go out of wack, which is like PMSing only a whole lot more horrible. go to someone you trust and tell them what you did. they can get you the help that you need. dont worry, everything will be ok! good luck!

Withdrawal. Since Zoloft is an SSRI, it has the potential for physical addiction.

Talk to your doctor NOW, if you really are having such problems.

If you're just playing with pills for sympathy, go ahead and use the shotgun.
