My husband's got an aching back?!

Question: My husband's 25 yrs old, and his back, for no apparent reason, is really hurting and has been for 2 days. He says it's the lower left hand bit of his back, and it throbs and sends shooting pains now and again. It doesn't hurt when he pees, so unsure if it's kidney problem. He's going to see his doctor tonight, but we were wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be? He's not done anything strenuous.

Hiya, i had this when i used to work on the roads(it doesn't necessarily have to be done by doing something strenuous though), I'm 23, and had the exact same symptoms, its probably sciatica (i don't know how to spell it lol sorry) it took me 3 weeks of rest to get over it, they only pain killers that did anything for it were anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or nurofen(same thing just expensive) if he goes through to the doctors he will probably hand him some co-codamol, usually 15mg(codeine)/500mg(paracetamol) or if its really bad 30mg(codeine)/500mg(paracetamol). Tell him to rest, but not too much he will need to walk for at least about 30 mins a day for it to heal. From now on he will probably have this if he ever lifts anything heavy.

kidney stones maybe? I don't know...

I was really stressed out a few months ago and wound up getting back spasms. My doc gave me IB Pro-fin and told me to lay on an ice pack and that did wonders. (I was laying on a heating pad and that made things worse- lol, I was like, "Why isn't this working?!) I'm glad he's going to the doctors though, I hope he feels better!

Hi. It could be a pinched nerve problem or sciatica. It's good he's seeing the doctor for a proper diagnosis

Sounds like he has trapped a nerve somewhere.
Did you know you can crack a rib by sneezing?
Anyway in the meantime pain killers.
Empathy sent (I pulled a muscle lifting someone into a car once).

Backs are funny things. Could be a liver problem, could be kidney problem, could be a muscle problem, could be be crushed disk. Could even be as serious as spinal cancer.

Kidney stones are I believe very painfull, so I doubt its that.

A pinched nerve is more likely, I did it once, but could hardly walk. the Dr came and offered pain killers, and rest... Three days later no change my wife told me to go to a chiropracter, I hobbled along full of sceptisism. In the space of a few minutes of feeling my spine a twisting jerk and click click down the spine, got up and walked off.... amazing.

He explained that the spine has grooves if you like, he showed me using his knuckles together interlocking. As I work with weights the grooves get warn so the spine can move out of position trapping a nerve.

I had subsequent visits when its happened again, less severe it feels like my left buttock has a spike through it. Its not associated with strain it can happen from sleeping funny, anything. One thing I was told is to strech gently before getting out of bed.

lay off the sex for a while

it could still be kidney's.....Doan's Pills are a good OTC for that and can't hurt.....but shooting pains does sound like a pinched nerve....i'm sure the doc will recommend a lot of bed-rest and hopefully some Tylenol 3. Chiropractic is a good thing too!

whatever it is, don't let some doctor cut unless ALL other remedies are exhausted.
