Why is it not recommended to sleep in contact lenses?!

Question: what can happen?

Answers: what can happen?

When you sleep your eyes role around in your head. POssibly you could lose a contact in the back of your head.

Becuase it could cause infection or cut your pupil.

It can irritate the eye.

YOu need to give the contacts time to soak in the solution to disinfect them. And you will be trapping germs and dirt in your eyes if you sleep with them in. You will just irritate your eyes

you can wake up and not be able to open ur eyes.
it can also irritate your eyes

roll to the back of your eyes and blind you forever.

They could slip behind your eyeballs where you wouldn't be able to get them back out again.

your eyes need to 'breathe' or get ub=nrestricted oxygen to prevent infection

Because it can irritate your eye or cause infection.

harder for oxygen to penetrate- your eyes need to breathe, you could develop cataracts without them (or is it ulcers)

and it could get infected

the solution you put in your contacts before putting them in will dry out, and they can stick to your eye.

Or in the night, the lense slides back in your eye, causing serious damage.

cause your eye can get dry

It also makes your eyes dry

You can sleep in O2 Optics, I do it all the time

infection and dehydration of your eyes.

I got in an infection from mine when i left them in for a month because the company said you can do that. Ended up getting infected because my eye absorbed too many proteins from the contact.

I did it for so many years....now I am wearing glasses, luckily I still look cute. :-)

It made them so irritated and now I can only wear contacts for a little while.

during rem sleep they could fall into the back of your head and youll go blind j/k but they could damage your eyes during rem sleep thats what ive heard

Because the proteins build up on the lenses and if you have sensitive eyes it can cause you to get a eye infection, i have friends who have gotten pink eye from it. Sadly, ive slept in mine for at least a month and nothing happened to me because i don't have sensitive eyes. It all depends on how your body can take it in.

Sometimes, the film can get stiff, so it bothers your eyes whenever you blink, move your eyes, etc. Othertimes, they could get permanently scratched because you might unintentionally rub your eyes or perform some other human operation while sleeping/waking up.

Rather disgusting, but the eye mucus can also cause harm. Dried up, it can scratch the lens. Because your eyes discharge a lot of water when wearing lenses, you might also find the area around your eyes to be a sticky mess after waking up.

They can get stuck to your eye and damage your cornea. There are some that are safe to sleep in. I sleep in mine for a week at a time and my eyes still feel great. Just ask for extended wear.

The protein build up can cause an infection and hurt your vision. I've fallen asleep in my contacts before and they get very dry. My uncle slept in his contacts and one broke inside of his eye. He had to go to the doctor to get the pieces out.

:-/ You're safer if you just store them in solution.

b/c the lens will dry out then it will become hard and could cut ur eye + u will get red eyes so not attractive!

I wear Night and Day lenses, these are one of the only two types (that I know of) that are approved by the FDA for overnight and continuous wear. The Night and Day lenses are approved for up to 30 day wear and are more permeable (let gasses like oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out) allowing your eyes to "breathe". Other lenses are not made this way and may cause (I have experienced it) severe irritation and sometimes infection.

Don't mess with your eyes...you can't get new ones.

because you can lose one or even hurt your eyes

it can mess up your eyes and its aggervating as crap

I think it drys out your eyes and might cause other problems with your eyes, and why would any one wear contact lenses when your eyes are closed.

It will cause lack of oxygen to the cornea which can lead to corneal edema (Swelling).

Corneal ulcers can occur as well as
Punctate keratitis.

Also it can increase the likely hood of infections.

It's not worth it, I see multiple patients who do this and it gives them a lot of problems.

It can cause irritation and your eyes would get really dry.

I fell asleep with my contacts and when I woke up it felt like they were glued to my eyes. When I took them out I hurt my cornea. The doctor said I suffocated my cornea. I guess when you are awake your contacts are lubricated my blinking, but when sleeping, you don't and the contact can become dry and thus suffocating the cornea. There are contacts designed for sleeping in. I have tried them, but didn't think they were comfortable.

it will irritate your eyes.

When you sleep, the contacts can get contaminated by the dirt from your bed which will get stuck in your eyes for hours. This will lead to fatal eye diseases.

When you sleep also, you may move about and the contacts may slip off your eyes and cut your eyes.

The contacts may also fall off your eyes and onto the bed and become dirtied permanently.
