What is it like to be a pathologist?!

Question: Do you get to hang out with family and friends much? Is life stressful and always revolving around work? I am 17, and this career interests me greatly, is there anything I should be prepared for? Im starting college next year.

Are you a lab rat? Do y ou like the lab and science? Do you lke to figure things out on your own? Major in biology zoology etc in school. Then med school and a residency.

Contact the Americal College of Pathology (part of the AMA) and they will have a ton of stuff to send you

Depends on where you work. Some pathologists work regular hours, others work hospital shifts. You'll have to go through a regular residency program, but after that, you won't be dealing with living breathing patients...only tissue samples.

Work and stress levels are highly dependent on how much you choose to take on. I know two pathologists in my immediate family--one is an intense workaholic with extremely high stress levels and works a lot of hours, and the other has a much more relaxed schedule. Obviously, the first makes a lot more money because she works so much more. I don't know much about pathology, but according to my father, whose father was a pathologist--it smells. A lot. :)
