Question: How do you make sure that the right steps are being taken to diagnosing a child with ADD / ADHD? Which do you see a psychiatrist or a psychologist?

I would take the child to a pediatric psychiatrist, they are not only trained in mental issues, they are also medically trained, which a psychologist is not.
My older son's ped diagnosed him. BUT he also had a ctscan done of his brain for a different problem. By a different dr. If you have a competent ped I don't see why unless they are other issues to see a psychiatrist or psychologist. They usually have the teachers fill out papers and do a complete physical to rule out other problems. Guess we were lucky to have the ped we had.
i would see a psychiatrist if i was u as they can diagnose them and help you live as normal life as possible!
