Numb hand?!

Question: My left hand has been going numb all day. It starts at my pinky and ring finger then down the side of my palm...It's only my two fingers that are doing it. It lasts for about 5-10 minutes then goes away. I don't know If it was the way I've been sitting at the computer.(my left hand holding my chin up) or if it's a pinched nerve...Courple tunnel maybe? I know im not having a stroke...I'm only 17.
Any ideas? I'f it keeps going on, i'm going to the doctor, but in the meantime...

That's strange. I've been getting the exact same feeling. Same fingers, everything! It usually only happens when I've been leaning on my elbow, which I do when I'm talking on the phone or on my computer. Then the numbness comes and goes. I'm 25, so I'm sure it's not a stroke. That involves a majority of a side of your body, I believe. I think I just putting pressure on a nerve or something when I'm sitting like that. I can't really figure it out. You actually saved me some time because it happened again a little bit ago and I was going to ask the same question. I just may see a doctor as well if it keeps up. Good luck and I hope you figure out what's wrong (for both our sakes).

Go to the doctor. You could have poor circulation in your hand(I had the same problem)...Not too mention the other things listed are a possibility, too. And you can still have a stroke at age 17..One of my really good friends did!! She finally regained feeling and movement to her face. Are you stressed much? That could cause it as well. Just see a doctor, they can tell you more.

I would say it`s courple tunnel.

i practice massage therapy, and before you go puttin yourself into a heart attack...try gettin a massage. sounds like you may have a pinched nerve in your upper shoulder/neck area. going to a dr may be a good idea, but i strongly suggest a massage first, especially if you have been sittin in fron of a computer for an amount of time.

It sounds like tendonitis, or carpal tunnel. I have/had both. It sux!

If you are only 17 you should be on your parents insurance, and should have no problem telling them you need to go to the Dr before you turn 18 and get dropped from their insurance and have to pay on your own!!!

BUT in the mean time, there are wrist braces you can wear. I have not found any good ones OTC but straight from the Dr's office. ($40) but it really helped. The less you use your hands, the better it will get. Don't rest your palms on the keyboard, try to keep them up.

ADDED- If you do find a brace over the counter that keeps your wrist straight, try it. I haven't seen any though....

Carpel tunnel. Had the same thing. It tended to worsen the more I worked at the computer. Had surgery...was back to typing within a week. See your primary physician first to be referred to a hand surgeon. Pain was absolutely minimal. Good luck

I have had the same thing happen to me, except it was mostly my thumb and the side of my hand. It has happened more than once and has always lasted no longer than the day. I think it is the equivelant of like your foot or leg falling asleep when you sit on it for too long. If you continue to have the same problem beyond a day or so, check it out with your doc. It's probably not serious though.
i bet it is something like this:

hey..
that happens to me sometimes, like if i lean on my hand during class or something.. when it happens to me it just means that my hand has "gone to sleep" or pins and needles or whatever you want to call it lol. it could be something more serious but thats what it sounds like. lol

pinched nerve. my opion?

Sorry to hear about your hand. It must be some illness, I hope it's not a severe one. You'd better by examined by doctor. I wish you recover asap. Sorry give you no piece of advice, but I'm an engineer ;)

Could be several things... CT syndrome or even you needing a re-alignment of your upper spine/neck......such as can be done by a good chiropractor.... I don't think it would be heart related at your age...but it's always good to check things out...
The nerves that service your hands attach to your spinal cord between your neck and the area between your shoulder blades...
