Hypotension, anyone? Doctors?!

Question: Last year, after passing out in the mall about 3 times straight in a row, I was diagnosed with hypotension. I am now on a medication called Fludrocortisone to keep my blood pressure up and from passing out. Well, lately, the medicine hasn't been working like it had been. I took it this morning and found that I was passing out more, and so, I'm staying in the bed all day. Along with fainting, I'm having a major head ache after taking the pill. I don't think this medicine is working, and I've been tested and MRIed for God knows what. Hypotension is ruining my life...and I'm a teenager. I can't ride rides that dip or drop at amusement parks, and i can't go outside and run or do gym without passing out or fainting. This is ruining my life. Is there any other medication for this, or a surgery I could have done? Anything, please?!

Hi there,

You seem to have a rare and serious form of hypotension.

Have you been taking your medication as you were told?

By the way, headache is a symptom of hypotension. The Fludrocortisone might not be responsible for it. On the other hand, the dose might not be high enough yet.

A simple thing you could do to help yourself would be to eat more salt. The medication you take helps to keep salt in your body, which keeps water in, making your blood volume higher, which rises your blood pressure.

Drinking coffee will also get your blood pressure up.

You will probably need to take another pill on top of Fludrocortisone since it doesnt seem to be able to improve your situation enough on his own.

I hope this helps you.

You might get a second opinion. I do believe that they should draw some blood once in a while to check how much of the meds are being asorbed into your body.
