Honest question - Why do all black smokers smoke menthol cigarettes?!
Question: I'm black, and even I don't know.
Answers: I'm black, and even I don't know.
I see black people on tv all the time and none of them smoke. Figured that was a reflection of reality.
hmmmmmm- i have never noticed? then again i dont know many black people
maybe because menthols are cheaper?
I've always wondered that! I work at a gas station and 99% get menthol, if they ask for Marlboro reds I always double check that I heard them right.
We think it's a substitute for tooth brushing. Maybe?
I think it's just cultural, when you start smoking you usually smoke what the other smokers around you are smoking. If you are a white cowboy that is Marlboro's (even advertized this way) if you are black (not to stereotype) you might smoke newport menthols which are also advertised more to blacks.
A lot of it is also probably just stereotyping and not real. I have a black guy friend that smoked camel regulars (he quit), and a white girlfriend that loved newport menthols (she also quit recently.)
I used to smoke, I'm white, and I started with Camels and ended with Camels 6 months ago. I tried menthols but never really liked them, and I think it's because they waren't what i started with.
Did anyone ask Paul Mooney that on "Ask A Black Dude?" on the Chapelle Show? Seems like I've heard the answer to this before... I just can't recall.
