How much force is required to break a tibia and fibula?!

Question: Just before Christmas I broke my friend's tibia and fibula whilst playing rugby and I was just wondering exactly how much force was required to break it. For your information it broke completely in two. Here is a picture of the bones: http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff307...

It depends on the condition of the bone. That is determined by things such as age and nutrition.

A lot! It depends where the break is! I bet your friend broke it down by the ankle where both the bones are thinnest!

tibia and fibula can reasonably be expected to occur in a "bending" break at a force of less than 100 pounds

RUGBY!! GREAT FORCE

It takes quite a lot of force, but it's more to do with the angle of the blow. And by the way, that X-ray is not a lateral view (as titled), it's an AP view!
