HELP! This is so embarrassing!?!

Question: My stomach makes noises all time time, no matter what. It's not because of hunger, because I definitely eat. This started happening around January and all of a sudden too. I haven't changed anything--diet, exercise..they're all the same. And it's so embarrassing because I'll be sitting in class and it'll be SO quiet. This is affecting my grades. I went to my doctor, but she said everything was fine. What should I do??

The noise is from gas. You are not eating frequently enough or you are eating 1 or more foods that your digestive system has trouble digesting. You can try to eat smaller amounts of food, more frequently if you are going long periods of time between eating.

You can try to pay closer attention to how your system acts after eating certain foods. Milk products, beans, acids, and spicy foods are frequent culprits. The other thing to know is that eating higher fiber foods may be good for you but often causes more gas production.

The cause of intestinal gas is undigested food in the colon. If the food is not completely digested, the remainder ferments in the colon and causes gas. If you go too long between eating, the acid in your stomach can cause gas. Sometimes antacids do help to reduce gas in your system.

The fact that you didn't have this problem before and that it just started in January is interesting. Is there anything that changed in your life about then? Sometimes increased stress can produce increased gas.

I empathize with you. I have to eat a high fiber diet for health reasons and I frequently have problems with gas. I hope something that I have written has helped.

TUMS!!!!!!

"Yet hunger really has nothing to do with an empty stomach but, instead, is a product of certain nutrients missing in the blood. Our brains contain a "hunger center," which functions as an accelerator, or as a brake, for our stomachs and intestines. Once necessary nutrients are lacking from the blood, the dinner bell is rung, and the stomach and intestines come rumbling"
