Is there another way to irrigate my nose?!

Question: i just had deviated septum surgery and have to spray saline solution up my nose a couple times a day. last time, it ran out the back of my nose, going through the part between my nose and throat. it must have some healing wounds back there, because it burned something terrible for like 45 minutes. i don't want to do it again. will it get the job done if i don't spray it up there very high? or is there anything else i can use? usually i don't like it when people post medical questions here because you never know who's answering and that can be dangerous, but i've called my doctor twice now after hours and don't want to be an annoyingly needy patient.

I have the same problem. They claim a netti pot works wonders, but I felt like I was drowning. The spray that bothers me the least is Simply Saline. It is in an aerosol can and the spray is finer than the ones you just squeeze like Ocean Spray. When you are using it, make sure you don't tilt your head back or it will drip down the back of your throat again. Good luck, I hope you feel better!

Your health plan probably has a nurse on call number. You can try that. You might want to reduce the amount of saline in your solution. Also please be sure that the solution is warm not hot or cold. Use the spray VERY gently and tilt your head forward while you do it. All that said, on Monday call your healthcare provider and ask them if they can offer any advice other than this.
