Partly it depends on what type of headache you are having.

Migraines: Are vascular headaches also called sick headaches. They are often on one side of head, but can be on both. They often cause nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light,
Take 2Advil, Aleve, Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid Release Gel Caps, etc.
Lie down in dark room.
Put ice pack on back of neck.

Tension Headaches: Are usually on both sides like a vise or band around your head.
It could also come up from the back of your head.
Also try Advil, Aleve or Tylenol every 4 hours.
Do head rolls gently. Ask for neck & shoulder massage.
Put ice pack on back of neck.

High Blood Pressure: Pain comes up from back of head & stays there. Take ASPIRIN. Go to MD.

Sinus Headache: Can be one or both sides. When laying down, if you turn over to other side pain will often move to bottom side of head. Can also cause nausea. Take Advil or Aleve to reduce inflammation. Try something like Mucinex to loosen mucus. Use saline nasal spray several times/day & drink lots of water. Take antihistamine like Zyrtec.
If mucus turns yellow or green go to MD you have a sinus infection & need an antibiotic. Ice pack on forehead might help.

Feel better.

i hope you are at home, cus you dont want to do this in public.

I just went through this with my brother he was in bed for 3 days with a headache. we finally went to the hospital they said he has been having Migraines. Also sometimes you can not treat migraines at home. It is like an Asthma attack you sometimes need more help and meds. Go to the local ER or DR and within no time you will feel great. Good Luck!

I have migraine or tension headaches about once or twice a month. I've used Advil, tylenol, excedrin, codeine and the only thing that works consistently for me is the Advil Extra Strength Liqui-Gels, it says Liquid Fast Migraine Relief on the bottle. Every person is different, but I recommend these. Try them. Be careful not to take more than one at a time, they're 400mg Ibuprofen. Read the instructions. Hope this helps.

A headache could mean alot of things. If on a scale of 1 - 10, what is your pain. Be honest about it because thats whats going to determine your next step. If its on a scale of 1-9, I would say give it some time with the drugs and see if it goes away. If it is a 10, that means you cant even be on yahoo answers it hurts so bad, so I don't think your there. If it were a 10 you should go to the emergency room at you nearest hospital, the reason I say that is because if you go to a regular "Emergicare" they will simply treat you for a migraine. It almost cost me my life about 20 yrs ago.I had a #10 headache and the doctor sent me home with pain meds, it didn't help, I wound up in the hospital that night and they found I had meningitis, I lay in a hospital bed and couldn't move my eyes for 8 days with pain. Don't let it get out of hand, if its a true 10 go to the hospital. Good Luck!!
