I constanlty have swollen tonsils, what to do?!

Question: You poor dear!! I had to get my tonsils taken out at age 25. June 8th, 2007. I will never forget that day..lol!! See an ear, nose and Throat doctor he may want to remove them. My doctors was reluctant to remove mine because I was older but after rounds and rounds of antibiotics It was inevitable they had to come out. Just go talk to an ENT doctor and see what they say. If you do need to get them removed the surgery isn't a big deal. Everyone loves to blow things out of proportion and I was scared to death. The surgery lasted about 15minutes. I woke up and wasn't in much pain. I went home in I think 4hours. I was encouraged to eat or drink as much as I could and stay in bed. The first 3 days were fine. Yeah you will be in pain but they will give you liquid pain meds to help. Advice...try to eat as much as you can...eating or drinking helps you heal a lot faster. My doc. was impressed with how well I did. I won't lie though on the 4th day to about the 7th day after the surgery I was in severe pain!! That is because the drug they give you to knock you out went out of my system..(it takes about 3 days for it to leave your system so your still a little numb from pain) but on those days I could not eat. I tried but I would cry of pain. So just take your pain meds, antibiotics and try to relax. After a week you start to feel better and on day 10 after surgery I ate just like I used to. The big concern is infection and bleeding. That is why you need to really take it easy for atleast the first couple days so you don't bleed. And infection just take your antibiotics..it will be liquid so its easy to swallow. Ok so Incase you do need your tonsills removed I hope this info helped. Lots of Luck!!

Have them removed.

Go to a doctor-swollen tonsils are a sign of an infection and it won't get better until the infection is cleared up. You may need a tonsillectomy. It is a simple procedure and recovery is quick. A chronic infection can lead to more serious illness so get it checked out.
