What is the connection between stress and weight anyways?!

Question: Why is it said that stress makes people gain weight? I tend to lose weight when stressed for awhile. But why is that? What is the connection? Just curious.

It's not the same for everyone, but people tend to change their eating and sleeping routines when they're stressed (usually not consciously, it just happens). So some people wind up eating more, because it's their way of dealing with it (makes them feel better, comforting type thing). I'm the same as you, I lose weight because I just don't feel like eating when I'm stressed. It all depends on the person I think.

The thought is that stress increases a hormone called cortisol which causes you to gain weight because your body thinks you are in a time where food may become scarce. It makes sense from an evolutionary sense. Our ancestors went through up and downs with food being available so thier bodies would store more food when they thought food was going to become scarce.

Some people treat stress by eating more.

I do the same as you, lose weight. I guess it effects people differently.
