Black stuff in loogie?!


Question: i dont smoke btw. whenever i take a shower at the end of the day i have a habit of letting out a loogie...and for a few months now my loogies had some black stuff in it...what is it and why? i live with my parents and they smoke but they dont smoke in the house, only in the bathroom in the back (that im never in). im not around anyone else that smokes either....thoughts?

oh and SOMETIMES when i blow my nose there will be black stuff (very light) in it too....

There could be a few things contributing to this problem. The first thing that came across in my mind was that your body is just getting rid of trapped dust. If you have a large home, or a lot of pets and you have allergies your body is just doing its thing. But then I was thinking why it was in your mucus.

Do you live in the city, or in a really polluted town like LA? You could have allergies, or some kind of respiratory infection. When you are in the shower, steam relaxes your lungs and stimulates the cillia in your respiratory system. Any foreign particles are removed.

It might be a bit of dried up blood, but nothing to worry about. It's probably cause by pollution, there isn't much you can do about it really. But I'm 99.9% sure that it's nothing to worry about.

it's probably dirt. i don't know where you live but depending on where, that's not going to be an uncommon thing.
