If you had a tonsillectomy...?!

Question: how many days after the surgery did you start eating normal foods? Today is the 14th day after the procedure for me, and I still have white scabs in my throat. I just wonder when it is safe to eat normal (or hot temperature) foods like soup, pizza, salad, pasta, etc. Im 30 years old by the way. Please include your age at the time of the tonsillectomy. Thanks!

Aside from checking with your doctor, I would gauge your level of pain when eating and swallowing in general. If you feel that you are ready to consume these more abrasive foods, I would say to give it a try. I had a tonsillectomy when I was a preteen and I remember excruciating pain for a while, but I can't remember the length of time that passed before I could even comfortably swallow liquids. I found a source that addresses the scabbing, stating that it should break off after 5 to 10 days. It would probably be best to get assurance from your doctor that it is ok to eat the foods (if you are feeling up to it) if you are worried about jeopardizing the healing process by messing with the scabbing.

i still have my tonsils but my brother had his removed when i was in middle school...all i remember is he got to eat an a$$ load of ice cream..lucky punk

i had my tonsils out when i was 9 and was made to eat mince and potatoes 2 days later in hospital. you can eat normally now.

I was 3years old. Unfortunately it takes longer for an adult to recover from a tonsillectomy. If you are unsure as to if you are recovering normally or if you are having trouble, wait and talk to your ENT tomorrow. Good Luck!

Unfortunately, mine are growing back.

My daughter was 18 when she had to have her tonsils out. do just go to your dr and have him/her check your throat as it could be infected as that's what happened to my daughter. She is now 28 and it's taken ten years for her tonsils to grow back!!!! When i asked the dr about this he said it can happen but does take some years. So after all that, and having her tonsils out, ten years later she has them again! Go figure! Good luck hon.

hi, my son had this done when he was 4 years old & he astounded the nurses by eating a packet of crisps, 2 hours after the operation!!!! However, although that was slightly unusual they did try to make all children eat toast after 24 hours & that applied to children in their teens as well. My friend also had this done when she was 22 yrs old & she too said it wasn't too bad after, usually the most commom complaint is dryness of the mouth & slightly tender but most people say after a day or so they feel fine. I am sure you will be fine & good luck!

my 2 children had t/a at 3 yrs & 4yrs old. they rebounded the next day. adults due take longer but not 14 days. the scabs are fine- eat/drink whatever you want. you should have already had your follow up (7 days after) & the doctor should have given you a clean bill of health. if you were to bleed it would have been at 7-10 days post surgery. mind over body. get better.

Do not eat anything scratchy until you are totally healed. I would stick with softer foods! My daughter had the procedure at 10 yrs old and we made sure the white scabs were gone before she was back on an unlimited diet.

i don't tonsillectomy but i already see at video wow... if you see this video and you can cleck here
